Descrición

This piece is a Neapolitan Nativity Scene composed of thirteen figures executed in polychrome wood. As is customary in this type of representation, the various figures are arranged around the central scene of the Nativity. The arrangement of the figures responds to a Baroque tradition, where theatricality and dynamism contribute to creating an immersive visual narrative. Thus, the figure of the Christ Child occupies the central space of the composition, accompanied by the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, while the ox and the mule rest at his side, with great naturalness and serenity.

A particularly notable element is the treatment of light, protagonized by a beam emanating from a bonfire situated in the center of the scene. This illumination creates a warm and intimate effect, which accentuates the emotionality of the moment represented and contributes to establishing an atmosphere of recollection and contemplation.

Around the main scene, angels and shepherds appear, approaching with expressions that oscillate between devotion and admiration, reinforcing the sacred and celebratory character of the ensemble. In the upper part, two thuriferous angels announce the birth from a feigned architectural structure, of more modest workmanship than the rest of the figures, which introduces a contrast that slightly detracts from the general harmony of the composition.

This sculptural ensemble exemplifies the expressive richness and technical refinement of the Neapolitan nativity tradition, where each figure contributes to constructing a scene laden with symbolism, emotion, and beauty.
