This piece is a polychrome wood sculpture executed in the first third of the 17th century, representing the Virgin in a praying attitude, seemingly kneeling and supported upon a lunar crescent driven by a cherub. The image shows Mary with a serene face and an expression of devout composure, accentuated by the soft flesh tones and the fall of long hair over the mantle.
Various elements of the attire stand out, such as the white tunic decorated with floral motifs and the crimson sash, which contribute to the visual richness of the piece. This is a work by an unknown author, attributed to the Castilian school, which presents evident stylistic parallels with other sculptures preserved in the collection, all of them linked to the Marian iconography developed by Gregorio Fernández and his circle.
